On Saturday, November 19th at 10 a.m. the Kiwanis Club will once again invite Santa to our city. Our parade will travel along main street, beginning at 11th street and 2nd Avenue East, finishing on 8th Street East. For more than 60 years, our club has worked hard to put smiles on childrens' faces. This is our Christmas gift to you!
This Year's Theme: Christmas Roots
The 2011 parade theme, Christmas Roots is dedicated in loving memory of Adamae Brown, a long-time Kiwanis supporter and Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade founder. This year’s theme is a reflection of your own organization's roots and heritage, especially as it looked during the holiday season, whether your beginnings were in the year 1900 or the year 2010. Celebrate your founders and proudly represent your Roots! |
Adamae Brown originated the idea of our own small town Santa Claus parade over 60 years ago. Her husband, J. Irvine Brown was a proud Kiwanian who felt this would be a wonderful project to show our appreciation to the citizens of Owen Sound for their ongoing support.
Through the years, Adamae's vision has expanded to include schools, businesses, churches and enthusiastic participants from throughout our district. Each year entrants put forth an extra effort to create a unique float to enhance our parade.
Our Kiwanis club members gladly volunteer their time to make this project happen each year. We could not do it without the wonderful administrative support from the DIA.
We are so grateful for the generous financial support from businesses and individuals shown to us each year. These donations assist our club in paying for the bands and to provide prizes to those who put an extra effort into their displays.
Bundle up and join us on main street at 10 a.m. on November 19th to once again see the vision that was Adamae Brown's come to life.
