The Builder for February 9th

Over 40 Kiwanians and guests tripped the heart fantastic at Stone Tree for our Valentine Luncheon Meeting. With red valentines, scarlet napkins and tasty chocolate turtles as table favours, the room was decked out for our meeting. Special guests were LG John Parker and PLG Bob MacDonald from the Orillia Kiwanis Club. Virginia Majury  graciously tickled the ivories for us in K Bert Hood's absence. Kiwanian Lorne Rich sold $67.00 worth of carnations. A rose wouldn't smell as sweet...

Friendly waiters were Kiwanians Guy Chouinard, Jim McManaman and Ted Horton. PP John Prettie was our master of ceremonies. LGE Gail Norris, President Linda Van Aalst and K Stew Andrew were judges and presenters. K Ted Stevens and his wife Nancy judged the musical hearts game which proved honesty isn't always the best policy...

For the Love of the Game!

Program Director PLG Al Kelly and Honorary Ann Kelly kept everyone on their toes with a fun packed hour of intellectual challenge... and they worked in some exercise to boot.

The travelling valentine game was won by K Peggy Moulaison's sister Ann. She was the lucky recipient of Honorary Ann's shortbread cookies.

One of Honorary Ann's famous cherry pies was up for grabs for those who could identify pictures of K's in their younger days. PP Peter Little was the successful detective in this sleuthfest of the Sweetheart Gallery.

PE Gord Harris and Liz won the strawberry jam session for "Name that Tune". With two jars won, Liz wasn't in a pickle as she shared hers with K Bruce Job's wife Lisa. That sounds like something a potential future Kiwanian might do...

Karen Sweatman had her heart in the right place when she won the Heart Bingo game. She was the happy winner of a bottle of vino in a red velvet jacket.

From the PEn...

Yes it's true, I have finally succumbed to the pressures of taking the reins
of our club for the year 2012/2013.

After much deliberation & discussion with my wife & work staff I am very pleased to say all are onboard with this decision. I am a very proud Kiwanian & I don't take this position lightly. As such, before accepting this role, I had to be sure I could handle both this position, my full time work schedule & the other schedule of 4 kids &, by then, 10 grand children 6 years old & under.

I will be depending greatly on all of you to make my term a memorable one full of fun & Kiwanis accomplishments. I will be contacting a lot of you regarding committee chairperson (the political correctness has started
already) positions in the near future so be ready.

I would like to thank those of you that have encouraged me to do this & to those that have given me your continued support during my term.

I have a few ideas I will but forward to better our club & to keep our members more informed & active.

When I look at the accomplishments & ongoing good we do, & are doing, in the area it just blows me a away. Think about it & you should be too. Being part of it, it feels good.

Elizabeth & I are looking forward to a great year of Kiwanis & I invite you to let me know your views & ideas to make our club even greater than it is now.

Yours in Kiwanis,

PE Gord Harris
